A lot of people dream of travelling at some point in their life. It's now a huge passion of mine so I thought I'd put together a list of my top ten reasons to travel. I hope these reasons can inspire and motivate others to get out there and experience the fun and freedom this world has to offer.

1. Adventure

Travel means adventure. More often than not, no two days are going to be the same. People crave new experiences, I know I do, and this is what made me first want to go travelling a few years ago. I've been able to do so many things that I wouldn't have if I hadn't have gone travelling, from scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef to skydiving twice and hiking in some of the most beautiful places on Earth.

2. Meet new people

Travel allows you to make friends that other wise you wouldn't have at home. This means more friends around the globe to keep in touch with and sharing fun experiences with other like-minded travellers you meet. I've found that staying in hostels is one of the easiest ways to make new friends; you are experiencing the same things as these people who also love to travel so they will always want to meet others and make new friends.

3. Get outside your comfort zone

Travelling to another country all by yourself can be very scary at first, but you will find it super easy to adapt and get used to it quicker than you know. You will discover how resourceful you are when exposed to new places and people. I've found my way around one of the busiest cities in the world, Sydney, and overcome challenges which has enabled me to realise how capable I am.

I've tried so many different kinds of jobs when travelling, some of which I would never have done at home and this has made me more confident in myself. When you return home you will be really proud of the fact you did it by yourself ... I know I am.

4. Try new foods

Okay so I love food! I think it is great to appreciate new flavours from around the world.

I have tried some very interesting foods while travelling, including kangaroo, buffalo and even crocodile meat! Don't be scared to try new foods, most of the time I have tried something I have loved it. And it is always fun to go and eat out in the place you are travelling, so enjoy it!

5. Nature and Animals

I absolutely love exploring the beautiful nature and scenery that England just doesn't have to offer and there are some seriously stunning places out there. I have laid on some of the most picturesque beaches, swam under many waterfalls, explored interesting and challenging hiking trails and jumped from terrifying heights into natural waterholes.

And I am a huge animal lover so this is a very big reason why I love travelling; to see some of the most amazing animals in their natural habitats. I always prefer to encounter animals in the wild rather than in a zoo, so travelling gives you that opportunity to go where they are.

6. The beach life

I am all for the beach life, I love beaches. The more natural the better in my opinion, and they are the perfect place to really relax and unwind. I could easily visit a new beach every day for a year and I wouldn't get bored, and travelling has enabled me to see and explore a countless number of really gorgeous beaches, all very unique to one another.

7. Become completely independent

When travelling solo you rely completely on yourself. You are the one making all the decisions. This could be navigating your way around a place or city, planning trips for yourself, getting jobs, just deciding what to do day to day or making the effort to meet people. After living in this way I know that my confidence has grown as I have not always had people to rely on or talk decisions through with, but I have always managed independently and it's a great feeling to know you can do it.

8. Escape the routine of everyday life

This makes people so much happier because you experience so much more than you would in a standard 9-5 life and you are being challenged and stretched. People seek from their travels what they don’t have back at home, from nicer weather, to gorgeous scenery, a slower, more relaxing pace and the freedom to do exactly what they want.

Travelling enables people to be constantly learning, gaining new skills and experiencing the unfamiliar. This could be learning other cultures, cuisines, languages and even the history or geography of a country.

9. Making memories

There are so many unforgettable memories to be made out there and travelling will open up this opportunity for you. The experiences you have and the memories you make will always be with you, and I can definitely say that personally I value this a lot more than anything materialistic in life.

10. Have no regrets

I have always been of the mindset that a house can wait, a car can wait, and a degree or career can wait... but travelling might not be able to wait so do it while you are young and able to. After all, life is short and the world is a massive place so make the most of it and experience and explore it while you can.
